The Small House Project
Why do we have this stupid Advertising on our website?
That's a great and valid question that I would like to take a moment to answer.

As you know, our website is designed to help those less fortunate.
And our blueprints and plans are free to everyone to download for free with
no requirement for registering for the site, or other annoying things.
Unfortunately, this website costs money to produce, host, create etc, and
the more people that visit our site, the more it costs us to run since the
websites bandwidth increases as time goes on, and bandwidth costs extra money.
In addition, the construction of the first Small House building that we are
going to be documenting in order to show everyone exactly how to
build it, also costs money since there are building supplies and materials that need to be purchased.
In order to mitigate all of the costs, we have Button links to Paypal in order to try and
gather some small donations from our visitors so that these goals can be met.
Unfortunately, we dont get many donations mainly due to the economy.
Our hosting costs (for the website) run approximately $25 a month.
That doesnt sound like a lot of money does it?
Well, to me, its a lot of money .
Not because the price is high, in fact, its quite reasonable for the high number of visitors we
get every day, week, month etc.
But to me, it effects my monthly living budget since I am on a fixed income due to a back injury
and am forced to live on Social Security Disability for the time being.
(I broke my spine 2 years ago in a freak accident)
As much as I would love to pay it all of the sites expenses myself, and not
have to say a word about my living situation,
unfortunately I simply cant due to basic economics.
In order to try and make up for the shortcomings in my budget, I
decided to try and make up the difference by supplimenting the
small number of donations we get (or dont get) by adding advertising to
our site that pays a small amount of money (a few cents) each time someone
clicks on one of our advertisements within our site.
It doesnt make us a lot of money, by any definition of the word.
In fact, the amount we make wont even get to us until the advertising account reaches
$100 or more, which takes several months- Before we are even sent a check.
Currently, our ad account has reached $68 and at this rate it will be about
another 2-3 months before our account reaches the amount
required by google before they issue a check to us.
But until then Either I have to come up with the money myself to
pay for the hosting and other supplies to run this site,
or solicit donations to help make up the difference.
Frankly I dont have the money to spend.
We all have been lucky that there have been a couple of generous visitors that have made
sonations of $5, $10, and $20 over the past 6 months which has helped our site keep
running until now.
There is an easy solution to this whole situation.
Our webhost (XO Communications - formerly Concentric ) has a
prepayment program which can save us a lot of money if we pay for a full year in advance
Unfortunately the cost of a year of hosting is about $130.
Now, if we were to be able to gather together donations at once that total that much,
we would then be able to REMOVE ALL ADVERTISING from our site !
Wouldnt that be great??
ANother option is to wait, and leave the ads up, and allow our ad account to accrue
the full $130 we would need, and THEN prepay the sites hosting for a full year, and
THEN we can remove the ads for 1 year.
If we were lucky enough to find a donor that could
donate the full $130 at once, we can remove all ads right away.
Let me say this as clear as humanly possible.....
I do NOT make ANY money at all from my blueprints or plans.
ALL monies that are generated from this site goes towards the hosting and building materials
Currently I have not purchased ANY building materials.
All money made has gone towards hosting.
The trailer we have been lucky enough to score that we will be
building the Small House Project on top of was gotten through a trade of
WII game console and a couple other things.
The great antique woodstove we were able to find was also the result of a trade
of a digital camera, which will be used to keep the Small House warm in winter once its built.
So in the meantime, I struggle each and every month to make ends meet , to pay for the
hosting of this site so that those less fortunate can obtain the blueprints needed to
build a home on wheels and spare them the agony of being homeless.

With all this said, I urge you, the friends of our site, to either
generously donate to our cause by clicking on the donate button and
make a donation through Paypal OR you can simply click on as many
advertising links on our site as possible when visiting our site because
for each click you make on our site, we get a few cents added to our
account that goes to help pay for our hosting.

Once there is $130 in either of our accounts, we will go to our host and
make a one time yearly payment to keep our site up for a full year, and then
we can remove all advertising from our site and every page.
We have had some suggestions from a few well meaning folks saying
that we could go to a free hosting company to host our site.
Unfortunately that wont work in our case because our site has at least
3 major complications
First, our site has file formats that are not supported by free website hosting companies.
Second, our site gets many many many visitors each day which would demand that we have more
bandwidth than a free host would allow and our site would quickly be taken down due
to excessive bandwidth requirements.
Third, our site requires about 100 megabytes to operate with the number of files that we host
which are the key - heart - purpose of our site.
Free hosting companies limit the amount of space they give to clients to only 25 megs each.
And at 25 megs, we simply wouldnt have a website that would be of any use to anyone.
So we are sort of stuck with the situation we are in.
Which isnt really that bad when you sit down and think about it.
Our site is affordable (to most peole) to operate and host.
And once this situation of hosting costs is taken care of, I promise that ALL
advertisements will be taken down PERMANENTLY.

Below, there is a Donate button, please take a moment and make a small donation, OR
click on an advertisement link or two (or three), and help us make a difference in a family who
really needs our plans.

If our site goes down for reasons of lack of funds, I personally wont be effected in
any way, because I do not rely on income generated from this site to live on.
BUT , It WILL effect the lives of those who rely on my blueprints to build their tiny home.
ALL other sites that offer blueprints and plans for tiny homes like ours sell them for
large sums of money starting at SEVERAL hundred dollars and up, sometimes reaching THOUSANDS
of dollars each.
That cost (buying blueprints) can mean the difference between someone really needing a house, may NOT
be able to simply because they MAY be able to afford the building materials, but may NOT be able to afford to buy
blueprints in addition to the materials.
So saving them several hundred to thousands of dollars can mean the
difference in someone having a home, or not having a home, and having to live
their lives in a way that we all want to avoid ourselves.
So, in closing, please help us help those who really need, and often REALLY deserve, the help.
And since I cant go around and build homes for people , the least I can do is create, post and
host blueprints for those who can build them themselves.

Thank you for reading this rant......
I believe this is a worthy cause.
Please donate today. Click the Donate button .
Or be generous with your clicks and click as many ad links on our site as you can.
OH! And by the way I do acknowledge ALL donations made, and will offer free advertising to ALL donors
who make donations through the Paypal buttons.
I have NO way of telling who clicks the advertising links , so im sorry but
there is no way of thanking those who do click the advertising links after the fact.
But I will say this, If someone (like You) were to donate the entire cost needed to
make a years hosting a reality, I will be MORE THAN HAPPY TO host a FULL webpage
of advertising for you or your company for free and acknowledge your
contribution to our project as a MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR... and as such would be
highly recommended by us for their generosity.
Thank you again for reading,.....
sincerely,
Joseph Kenyon- Founder of the Small House Project
